Now Ikea is going one step further and opening the Ikea Hostel, where customers can stay overnight if they haven't finished their shopping.
Later this month Ikea in Norway will let shoppers kip down in one of its two Oslo warehouses, an operation that will last a week. Frode Ullebust, a company spokesman, said: "It will be like an alternative hostel. There will be the regular dormitory with lots of beds stacked up together.
“We will also have a bridal suite, with a round bed and a hanging chandelier, and the luxury suite, where customers can enjoy breakfast in bed," he said. Family rooms will also be available for parents and children.

Almost 3,000 of the incidents are estimated to have occurred because of confusion over wristbands used to identify patients. An investigation found that the colour red on a wristband had eight different meanings in different NHS trusts, ranging from "allergic to penicillin" to "does not have English as a first language".

Porquê esta moda, entre milionários e multi-milionárisos, de comprar clubes de futebol?
Em Inglaterra já quase todos os clubes da primeira liga pertencem ou estão em vias de pertencer a pessoas como:

- American multimillionaires, Tom Hicks and George Gillett - Liverpool
- US tycoon, Randy Lerner - Aston Villa
- Colorado-based billionaire Stan Kroenke - 12% do Arsenal

Confesso que não percebo nada de futebol mas, as noticias de clubes cheios de dividas e à beira da falência é uma constante nos jornais e tele-jornais diários levando-me a pensar que este não seria um negócio muito rentável.
Mas estou, de certeza, enganada e deve haver alguma coisa que leva estes grandes empresários a investir nos clubes de futebol.
Será que é amor ao desporto?

Como é que se financia a promoção da abstinência sexual.
Os sermões, da igreja, da familia, já vimos que não deram grandes resultados.
Talvez com ofertas de televisores mas, em grandes zonas de África não existe rede electrica e, com a fome que grassa por lá , rapidamente os aparelhos seriam trocados por qualquer coisa para comer.
Gasta-se o dinheiro em quê?
A pagar a pregadores?
A imprimir e distribuir panfletos que explicam os beneficios da abstinência sexual?

Patrick Imbardelli walked out on his £300,000 a year job as head of the group's Asia Pacific chain only days before he was poised to join the main board of the FTSE 100 company.

Segundo noticia publicada ontem no Guardian, em 2002 foi apresentada à National Academy of Sciences nos Estados Unidos pelo Air Force's Wright Laboratory de Ohio um projecto para desenvolvimento de uma arma "inovadora".
Um "spray" a ser usado contra o inimigo que contendo afrodisiacos potentes, induzissem comportamentos homosexuais.
"One distasteful but non-lethal example would be strong aphrodisiacs, especially if the chemical also caused homosexual behaviour," says the proposal from the Air Force's Wright Laboratory in Dayton, Ohio. "
O mais estranho é que o Pentagono admite ter levado em consideração, para estudo, esta proposta.

Como houve pais que não apresentaram queixa ( talvez para pouparem os filhos a apreciações destas) os juízes também não devem defender as vitimas?
A imagem social de um abusador de crianças, é um factor a ter em conta?
A vida social e familiar de muitos psicopatas que mataram dezenas de pessoas também era, segundo a a familia e os vizinhos, muito normal e pacata. Será que lhes deveriam ter reduzido a pena por isso?

Que seres humanos são estes que são supostos julgar e facultar justiça?

Contadores
Sugestão para os 'media'.
Em vez de todos dias repetirem noticias, sugiro que criem contadores e assim ficam com mais tempo para o noticiário que realmente importa, o futebol:
- Contador de mortos/feridos no Iraque
- Contador de mortos/feridos na Palestina
- Contador de mortos/feridos no Paquistão
e, por aí fora, nos outros países em guerra.
- Contador de crianças mal tratadas e/ou desaparecidas
- Contador de pessoas a trabalhar em regime de escravatura
- Contador de arguidos relacionados com a vida politica/futebolistica
- Contador de empregos deslocados para paraísos de mão-de-obra barata
- Contador das empresas que fecharam/ número de desempregados
Estes contadores seriam visionados em poucos segundos e os telejornais teriam assim tempo para discutir as lesões dos futebolistas, os comentários eloquentes dos treinadores, os jogos, os arbitros, as transferências, o antes do jogo, o depois do jogo, as claques...
Estou certa que o sr. Scolari, o homem que segundo alguns mudou o rumo da História do país, aprovaria esta minha sugestão.

Negócios, negócios, religião à parte...
Quem visita o Vaticano fica, desde logo, com a sensação que os membros da igreja não vivem de acordo com os ensinamentos de Cristo.
Os cardeais, anafados, que se passeiam em limousines com motorista para cá e para lá.
As cadeiras de ouro para passear o "representante" de Cristo.
As riquezas acumuladas pela igreja ao longo de séculos e, algumas, em exposição nos seus museus.
Lembro-me sempre daquilo que aprendi na catequese:
"Cristo expulsou os vendilhões do templo"
Pois agora quem expulsa é o Vaticano e não são os vendilhões:

Vatican buildings are not subject to any council tax, even if they lie outside the Holy See. In addition, businesses run by religious enterprises get a 50 per cent discount on corporation tax.

Cardinal Attilio Nicora, who heads the unit that controls the Vatican's property and equity holdings, has completely restructured the Holy See's finances since he arrived in 2002.
He made a profit of £33 million in 2004/5 from the sale of various buildings.
The money more than covered the heavy losses from running Vatican Radio and Romano Osservatore, the official newspaper.

The government's advisers on medicine knew that patients were at risk of contracting Aids from imported blood products as early as 1983, but ruled against a ban because of fears it would cause a shortage of supply.

Minutes obtained by the Guardian of a meeting held on July 13 1983 reveal that the Committee on Safety of Medicines (CSM) knew that "patients who repeatedly receive blood clotting-factor concentrates appear to be at risk" of Aids.

Nearly 5,000 people were infected with hepatitis C; of these 1,200 contracted HIV after receiving the imported plasma product in the late 70s and early to mid-80s.
A total of 1,757 patients have died and many are terminally ill following a scandal that the Labour peer Lord Winston has dubbed "the worst treatment disaster in the history of the NHS".

The plasma, called Factor VIII, was made from blood from 10,000 paid donors, many of whom were prisoners or vagrants, who, by 1975, were known to carry a greater risk of having hepatitis C.

Caso Judicial Importante
Vai hoje a julgamento uma senhora de 77 anos por ter tentado, em 2005, roubar um creme que custava 3,99 Euros num supermercado Lidl.
O Ministério Público, segundo o advogado da acusada, insiste em levar o caso a julgamento.
Estamos a pagar ao pessoal administrativo, ao acusador do Ministério Público, a um juiz (pelo menos) um trabalho que dura há 2 anos para satisfazer a queixa de um super-mercado que quase se viu defraudado em 3,99 Euros.
É obra!
E depois queixam-se que os tribunais estão atulhados de processos, que as prisões estão cheias de presos preventivamente e que a justiça tarda....
Enfim, depois de quererem que um pai "adoptivo" que recolheu uma criança abandonada e rejeitada pelo pai biológico, pague uma indemnização e cumpra pena de prisão por tentar proteger a saúde psicológica da criança já nada me espanta...

Unborn babies judged to be at most risk of social exclusion and turning to criminality are to be targeted in a controversial new scheme to be promoted by Downing Street today.
In an effort to intervene as early as possible in troubled families, first-time mothers identified just 16 weeks after conception will be given intensive weekly support from midwives and health visitors until the unborn child reaches two years old.

Downing Street will outline today how a £7m pilot scheme has already begun to recruit the first of 1,000 families in 10 areas in England.

Em Inglaterra, na conferência anual da Policia , chegou-se à conclusão que o método de avaliação do pessoal baseado unicamente no cumprimento de objectivos ( do tipo 'quem faz mais detenções') teve resultados "surpreendentes".
Na procura de ser eficiente houve detenções "espectaculares":
* A Cheshire man who was cautioned by police for being "found in possession of an egg with intent to throw";

Job displacement
A deslocação de empregos para a India, China, VietNam,etc... é a "gold mine" de mão de obra barata descoberta há uns anos pelas empresas dos países ditos desenvolvidos que nunca mais a deixaram de explorar.
Mas, começa a haver casos caricatos como o que acontece em Pasadena, California.
Um website de noticias, PasadenaNow.com, tendo necessidade de contratar jornalistas para escrever o noticiário local, resolveu colocar na Internet o seguinte anúncio:
"We seek a newspaper journalist based in India to report on the city government and political scene of Pasadena, California, USA,"
Pasadena vai passar a contar com uma visão Indiana do que se passa politica e socialmente na sua cidade. Revolucionário!
"The two reporters, who will watch council proceedings live on the internet, come cheap by Californian standards: the Mumbai post will attract $12,000 (£6,000), the one in Bangalore, $7,200. "
Quando um serviço noticioso é entregue a alguém cuja experiência vem da industria de roupas, com 'outsourcing' de fabricação na India e no Vietnam, é natural que esse gestor afirme que noticiar é:

Há alguns anos, correu uma anedota, um bocado parva, mas que fez ficar nas bocas do pessoal a frase: "A eterna dúvida".
Já não me lembro da história mas, tinha a ver com um marido que até perante o óbvio continuava a ter uma dúvida eterna.
Assim estou agora, cheia de Eternas Dúvidas:
- Existe uma guerra civil no Iraque?
- As alterações climáticas. o aquecimento global é uma realidade?
- A economia Americana está à beira de uma recessão?
- A economia Chinesa vai entrar em "overheating"?
- O desemprego na Europa e EUA vai diminuir?
- O endividamento geral das populações da Europa e EUA vai continuar a subir?
- A agflação vai continuar a aumentar?
- A deslocalização de empregos para a India, China, Bangladesh,... vai continuar?
- George W. Bush sofre de senilidade precoce?
- O Socrates é mesmo engenheiro?
Bem leio jornais, livros das mais variadas opiniões e tendências, mas, fico como o outro da anedota...

e o artigo informa que existe um novo "palavrão", agflation, para designar a subida de preço da "comidinha".
Dizem eles que se verificou um aumento de 30% nos preços do arroz, trigo, milho, carne desde Março de 2005 e que, passo a citar:
"Food prices are rising faster, relative to other measures of core producer-price inflation, than at any time since the early 1980s."
